Biography

Jacqui has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics from Memorial University of Newfoundland (1981) and a Master of Arts in Journalism from the University of Western Ontario (1983). She has held communications and marketing positions with the Newfoundland & Labrador Housing Corporation (1983-85), Newfoundland Power (1985-1991), and Newfoundland & Labrador Teachers’ Association (1991-1996). She moved to Alberta in 1996 after accepting the position of Manager, Communications & Public Relations at the University of Lethbridge, and in 1999, moved to Waterloo, Ontario, to take on her current role as Director of Public Affairs & Publications at Wilfrid Laurier University.

Jacqui has received numerous international awards for editorial, speech and annual report writing, as well as for publication production, public relations programming and websites. She is active in a number of professional associations, including the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) the Canadian Association of Communicators in Education (CACE), and the Canadian Council for the Advancement of Education (CCAE), and has given communications and marketing related presentations throughout the country for numerous organizations including CCAE, IABC, the Canadian Educational Press Association, and the Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia Teachers’ Federations. Jacqui is currently a member of the Steering Committee for the Association of Commonwealth Universities ACUs) Communications, PR and Marketing Network, and a member of the international judging panel for ACUs PR awards.

Jacqui is an active volunteer with the Alzheimer Society of Kitchener-Waterloo, and speaks regularly to family members and caregivers of Alzheimer victims. She was the honorary chair for the 2003 K-W Walk for Memories and is currently a member of the Education and Family Services Committee.
