Biography
Born in Johannesburg. After schooling in Kroonstad, Bloemfontein and Bothaville, he proceeded to Germany to complete high school studies covering chemistry, physics, hydraulics, etc.
He studied law and economics at the Universities of Frankfort, Berlin and Hamburg, at the same time taking courses in engineering. He also attended lectures on international law at the Universities of Stockholm, Upsala, Copenhagen and Lausanne.
Degrees: Dilp. rer. pol (M.Econ.) Berlin, Doctor of Laws, specialising in International and Constitutional Law, etc.
He wrote two books on the Status of the Union of South Africa, 1935 and 1937, which were acclaimed by eminent international lawyers and law journals; and was at one time a correspondent to overseas economics and law journals.
