Biography

Robert Goodman was born in Ithaca, New York. After High School, he attended Johns Hopkins University and then Cornell University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in plant sciences followed by his Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in plant pathology. He then completed a postdoctoral fellowship in plant virology at the John Innes Centre in Norwich, England.

In 1974, Goodman became a professor at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. In 1982, he worded for Calgene, Inc., as executive vice-president of R&D. He became a professor of plant pathology and environmental studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is currently a professor at Rutgers. In 2002, Goodman was elected a fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS).
