Biography

**“I don’t want to believe, I want to know.”**
— Paulo Bittencourt

Paulo Bittencourt (also known as Paulo Bitencourt) is an Austrian freethinker, humanist and atheist. He was raised Seventh-day Adventist and studied Theology, but left the church just before becoming a pastor. The explosive growth of Evangelicals, the rise to power of ultraconservative and radical right-winger Jair Bolsonaro and the ever-increasing imposition of religion on politics in Brazil, Paulo Bitencourt's birth country, compelled him to write about the dangers of the belief in God and the benefits of being a freethinker. His books also give advice on how to heal from religious trauma.
