Biography
Born in St. John's in 1984, Kenneth Tam moved with his family to Lethbridge, Alberta in 1996, and then to Waterloo, Ontario, in 1999. In 2008, Kenneth completed his Master's degree in history at Wilfrid Laurier University, receiving a Gold Medal for Academic Achievement. His MA thesis examined the creation and operation of the Caribou Hut, a hostel for Allied servicemen in St. John's during the Second World War.
In 2006, Kenneth received a prestigious Canada Graduate Scholarship from the Social Sciences and Humanities Council of Canada. He also was awarded a Balsillie Fellowship at the Centre for International Governance Innovation during 2006-07. In that capacity, he worked for Mr. Paul Heinbecker, Canada's former ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations. In November 2008, Kenneth joined the staff of Peter Braid, Member of Parliament for Kitchener–Waterloo, as a Communications Consultant.
Since releasing his first novel in 2003, Tam has promoted his books across Canada, speaking with junior and high school students, delivering writing workshops, and doing book signings at bookstores and Iceberg-organized events. He was an author guest at Polaris (formerly Toronto Trek), Canada's largest fan-run science fiction event, for five straight years from 2004 to 2008, and will return in 2009. He was also an author guest at Sci Fi on the Rock in Newfoundland in 2007 and 2008, and will return in 2009.
Kenneth is a partner in Iceberg Publishing, the company he and his family started in 2002. He has now authored eighteen of the company's existing titles, and is also responsible for graphic design, including the company logo, website, banners, advertisements, and other marketing materials. He acts as a primary contact with printers and suppliers, and is also key in new author development and recruitment.
Over the past year, Kenneth has begun advising authors and publishing companies starting up in the new era of digital printing. He hopes that his experience in building Iceberg Publishing can help streamline the process for these new houses as they enter the publishing realm.
