Biography

Charles Hamilton Aide was born in Paris, France, the son of an Armenian merchant. When he was four years old, his father was killed in a duel, and he moved with his British mother to England. He attended the University of Bonn, and then served in the British Army.

After the army, he returned to live with his mother in Lyndhurst, England. In 1875, his mother died, and he moved to Queen Anne's Gate, where he became a member of London's literary society and hosted a salon. He wrote nineteen novels, several books of poetry, songs, and plays, and he sketched.
