Biography
Born in British Guyana, he spent his early life alternating between the West Indies and England and graduated in mathematics from Cambridge University (<a href=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_John_Locke>Wikipedia</a>). He started in teaching but began a very successful writing career in 1894.
