Biography
George J. Nelson was a stockbroker and financial consultant who established the Nelson Fund, which came to be known as the mutual "fund for millionaires." Mr. Nelson founded the mutual fund, which specialized in European stocks and securities, in 1956. The fund's shares were held largely by bankers and other Wall Street professionals. In 1968, he coauthored *The Anatomy of Wall Street: A Guide for the Serious Investor* with Charles J. Rolo.
Born in Russia, raised in Denmark, and educated in Germany and England, Mr. Nelson was a cosmopolitan man whose understanding of European affairs was the foundation of his later business success. Mr. Nelson came to the United States in 1935 after studying economics at the University of Berlin and at Cambridge University. He worked first for Laird, Bissell & Meeds and then Shields & Company as a stockbroker before founding the Nelson Fund. He headed Nelson Fund Associates, which succeeded the Nelson Fund, until his death.
