Biography

Edward Bruce Williamson was a banker who became a renowned odonata expert, with a particular interest in dragon and damselflies. He collected specimens from all around the world, but primarily focused on those found in Indiana and the American Midwest. Williamson identified numerous new dragonfly species and donated many of his specimens to museums. He was appointed curator of odonata at the University of Michigan Museum of Zoology, where he developed an impressive collection that he made available for research and exhibition. Williamson was also a respected botanist and iris breeder, whose business supported his family after his bank collapsed during the Great Depression.
