Areg Lusinyan is a renowned Armenian composer. Born in 1935, he graduated from the R. Melikyan Music College in Yerevan, Armenia, in 1956 (class of E. Mirzoyan) and the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory, Armenia, in 1961 (classes of Prof. G. Eghiazaryan and Gh. Saryan). He has been a member of the Union of Composers of Armenia since 1966. In addition to his creative work, he has been teaching music since 1953 and is a professor of Music Arts at the Armenian State Pedagogic University. Areg Lusinyan is an author of over 60 books published in many countries, including Armenia, Russia, Lebanon, Ukraine, United States, and Iran, and of almost one thousand compositions published in more than 170 books. Recordings of his 300 compositions are included in the “golden collection” of the Armenian radio as well as in recording archives in other countries.
His rich musical anthology includes two symphonies, Symphony No. 1 (1962) and Symphony No. 2 (Symphony-Requiem, 1988); one operetta “Always with You” (1970) (libretto A. Melikyan); vocal-symphonic compositions; chamber compositions, among which Three Miniatures for String Quartet (1955), String Quartets No. 1 (1962) and No. 2 (1988), and Trio Patetico (piano, violin, cello) (1959); Suite for Two Pianos in two parts “Prelude” and “Dance”(1956); numerous piano pieces and series (including “Circus”, “In the World of Toys”, “Little Scenes”, “Four Fantastic Piano Pieces”, and “Armenian Folk Music Elaborations”); vocal compositions, including chorals, ensembles, duets, and solo pieces as well as series of romances (“Nostalgia”, “The Flower of My Native Land”, “My Life Became a Dream”) and song-romances; three children operas based on fairy-tales by H. Tumanyan (“Kid” (goat) – 1965), (“The Sky is Falling” – 1966), and (“The Bird” - 1986); and series of songs dedicated to each letter of the Armenian (“Musical ABC” - 1982), Russian (“Singing ABC” - 1986), German (“Das Alphabet in Liedern” - 2000) and English (“Let’s Learn English in Songs” - 2004) alphabets.
The compositions of Areg Lusinyan are distinguished by their melodic and lyrical character, laconism of expressive musical thoughts, and picturesque portrayal.
