Biography

Upendra Pokhrel was born on 7th May 1944 in Dhankuta, Nepal, to his parents Bidhyanath Pokhrel and Girija Kumari Pokhrel. He was a versatile writer who made contributions to the literary and theatrical scene in Nepal. In 1969, he achieved recognition as an author with the publication of his novel titled 'Mimi.' He contributed to Nepali literature by writing poems and satirical articles also, which he published in various periodicals and magazines. During the 1960s and 1970s, Pokhrel wrote theatrical plays and successfully staged them in his hometown of Dhankuta.

Academically, Upendra Pokhrel held a master's degree in economics from Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu. He utilized his knowledge and passion for the subject by teaching economics for nearly four decades at Dhankuta Multiple Campus. His dedication to education was further evident as he served as the Campus Chief of Dhankuta Multiple Campus for a remarkable period of 12 years.

He died on 18th February 2019 in Biratnagar, Nepal.
