Biography
Mrs. Nolen attended Huntington College and graduated with a degree in Home Economics from the University of Alabama. She lived an extraordinary and busy life. She was an avid gardener and horticulturists who loved growing plants, flowers and vegetables. For many years she was a schoolteacher and kindergarten teacher in Fayette County. She, along with her sister, Betty Levi, were the coauthors of many children's books. Her husband, Charles, served on the Board of Trustees at the University of West Alabama (Livingston) from 1967 until his death in 1985. Mrs. Nolen continued as the Trustee of the Board until her death. She was actively involved in many community organizations including the Luxapallila Chapter of the Daughters of American Revolution where she served as Regent. She also contributed to Fayette Boy Scout Troop#45 where her son, Steven, serves as scoutmaster. In addition, she participated in Dogwood Productions musical plays "Scrooge" and "Come Back to God America". During her life she was active at the Fayette First United Methodist Church as well as Rehobeth Baptist Church. She instilled in her children beliefs, a strong work ethic and the importance of education.
