Biography
Achille Occhetto is an Italian politician known for being the last Secretary of the Italian Communist Party (PCI) and the first Secretary of its successor, the Democratic Party of the Left (PDS). His tenure as the leader of these parties marked a significant transition in Italian politics, especially with the dissolution of the PCI and the formation of the PDS following the collapse of the Soviet Union and the end of the Cold War.
