Biography

Gary Wilson was born on May 19, 1945 in Colorado City, Texas. He lived the first 10 years of his life on a 160 acre farm 2 miles south of Westbrook, Texas which is 11 miles west of Colorado City. Although he didn't know it at the time, his family, which included a younger sister, was poor. Gary's daddy died of cancer when he was 10 and the family moved into Colorado City. After moving two more times, they settled on another farm 8 miles east of Minden, Louisiana. After completing high school in Athens, Louisiana, Gary worked in the oil field for a year and a half then joined the army. While in the army Gary applied for infantry officer candidate school then flight school. Having earned his aviator wings as a young 1st lieutenant, he received orders for Vietnam where he earned several medals, the highest of which was the Distinguished Flying Cross. Gary started cooking when he was 10 years old and his love of cooking increased over the years. During the winter of 2018/2019, he decided to write a cookbook; MEMORIES: RECIPES FROM CALLOWAY CORNERS, LOUISIANA.
