Biography

Dr. William “Bill” Griffiths was a pioneer, leader, and visionary in public health, family planning, and health education. His contributions to the field included exemplary service to the Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE). He was one of the founders of SOPHE and of Health Education Monographs, having edited some of the earliest issues before it became Health Education Quarterly (now Health Education & Behavior). He served most recently on the Senior Advisory Panel of the magazine. He was Health Education & Behavior, Vol. 26 (1): 5-6 (February 1999) SOPHE president in 1995, spearheaded SOPHE’s Code of Ethics in its original version, and assisted in the recent initiative to form a unified code of ethics for the profession. He was awarded Distinguished Fellow status in the Society in 1975.
