Biography

Elizabeth Orchardson-Mazrui is a Professor in the Department of Art and Design, School of Visual and Performing Arts, Kenyatta University, Kenya. She is a visual artist and a writer. She paints very detailed digital artworks using photoshop and the mouse and calls this 'painting with a mouse'. she attended the Cambridge School of Art in Cambridge, UK, and the west surrey College of Art and Design, surrey, UK. her PhD in Art History ( with emphasis on African Art) is from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, UK. In 2011, her children's story 'Sheila, Let's Write to God', won the 2nd place nomination for the Kenyatta Prize for Literature. Her most recently-published book is titled Art and Material Culture: a socio-historical study of the Miijikenda. Her research areas are in gender and socio-cultural studies.
