Biography

Emily L. VanLaeys is an author and a certified life-cycle celebrant. Her essays and articles have appeared in numerous publications including The Chicago Tribune, Unity Magazine, Venture Inward, and Chicken Soup for the Fisherman’s Soul. Emily has led workshops in creative writing and a variety of spiritual topics, including dream interpretation. Emily’s book, Dream Weaving: Using Dream Guidance to Create Life’s Tapestry is a spiritual memoir published by A.R.E.Press.

Emily has a B.A. in English from William Smith College in Geneva, New York, an M.A. in Women’s Literature from Goddard-Cambridge Graduate School for Social Change, and a certificate in Life-Cycle Celebrancy from the Celebrant Foundation and Institute in New Jersey. Emily started her business, Custom Ceremonies, in 2008. Since then she has created and performed numerous personalized wedding ceremonies, as well as ceremonies for wise women, healing, vow renewal, and celebration of life. She has appeared on WISF-TV 15 to discuss life-cycle celebrancy.

Emily lives in Oneonta, New York, with her husband, Mark. Emily and Mark have two adult children: Vera, who lives in Albany, New York, and Peter, who lives in Madison, Wisconsin.
