Biography
Antonio Leonardo Verri (Caprarica of Lecce, 22 February 1949 - 9 May 1993) was an Italian novelist, poet, publicist and publisher who was part of the Italian literary postmodernism.
He joined the Genetic Movement of Francesco Saverio Dòdaro and was among the main animators of the literary debate of the 1980s of the Southern Italian Avant-garde. It belongs to the so-called "cursed poets from Salento" (also called "savages from Salento"), including Salvatore Toma.
He founded and directed literary magazines Caffè Greco (1979-1981), Pensionante de 'Saraceni (1982-1986) and Quotidiano dei Poeti (1989-1992) which from May 1991 intersected with another newspaper: Ballyhoo - Communication newspaper. His "cultural performance" remained memorable; that of being able to spread for twelve consecutive days the Quotidiano dei poeti, a newspaper made only of poetry, printed in Maglie, at the Erreci editions of Pino Refolo, and distributed during the day, through a network of friends and militants, in Bari, Naples , Rome, Matera, Perugia, Milan, Trento and Belluno.
He collaborated with the review Sudpuglia (1986-1993) and Titivillus (1991-1992), and directed On Board (1990).
He organized two editions of a market exhibition of Apulian poetry, entitled: At the Banco di Caffè Greco, and then two exhibitions-readings, the first of which was on James Joyce and Raymond Queneau and the second on the Scrap, writing game with typographical waste . Then, with the collaboration of Raffaele Nigro, he staged a radio drama on Rai di Bari based on his Ilmaker d'armonia, in May 1985.
He took care of all the activities related to the Pensionante de 'Saraceni Cultural Center and the necklaces: I quaderni del Pensionante (1983-1987), Spagine. Infinite Writing (1991), Compact Type. New Fiction (1990), Diapoesitive. Writings for the screens (1990), Mail Fiction (1991), of which "Spagine, Compact Type, Diapoesitive, Mail Fiction" were the ideas of Francesco Saverio Dòdaro in which Antonio Verri entered as co-curator and editor, Habits. Author's folders (1988-1990), and contributed with his contribution to the series of I Mascheroni (1990-1992) of "Media 2000".
One project he particularly cared about saw the light in 1992: Ballyhoo-Litterature, or the Declaro. The book that in Verri's idea could contain his world, a sort of personal infinite book.
In Cursi, Lecce, the "Contemporary International Fund Pensionante de 'Saraceni" was established, an eccentric and precious library made up of over three thousand volumes, magazines, manuscripts, catalogs, scores and audiovisuals.
He died in a car accident in May 1993.
