Biography
Leothiny Clavel, Ph.D., is Executive Director of Capeeth Research and Writing Center. His more important books on Capiz province, Philippines are: Panugiron sa Capiz: My Other Poems and Essays (2022), History of Capiz (2021), Si Juan Pusong Bilang Capisnon & Other Literary Works (2019), In the Cultural Realm of Capiz: Explorations in Honor of Pilar Solidum Clavel (2015), Dictionary of Capiz: History, Culture, and Environment (2012), Political Power in Capiz: Studies in Honor of Leopoldo Pagharion Clavel (2011), Si Pilaring ni Polding: A Folklore Bearer of Capiz (2010), Cultural Images of Capiz (1996), and Oral Literature of Capiz (1973). He is co-editor of Leopoldo P. Clavel in Public Service: Gazing at Capiz Province and Its People (2009) (with Pilar Solidum Clavel), Poetry of Capiz: Harvesting the Binalaybay (2013) (with Virgilio S. Dr Clavel is author of five other books including Government Information in Practice (1991), Agrarian Reform in the Philippines (1981) and They are Also Filipinos (1968). He is co-author of Urban Community Media in the Philippines (with Dr Florangel Rosario-Braid), Training & Productivity (1984) (with Olivina Castanos et al.), and three other books; editor of the five-volume Modular Program for Trainors in Productivity (1981); and co-editor of Bringing Health to Rural Communities: Innovations of the U.P. Manila School of Health Sciences (2011) (with Dr Josefina G. Tayag), Before the Turning Point: Personal Stories of the University of the Philippines (2009) (with Dr Lourdes E. Abadingo), Strategic Directions for Health Sector Reform (2009) (with Dr Josefina G. Tayag), Bishop Nilo Tayag's The Revolution for Filipinism (2014) (with Dr Josefina G. Tayag) and For Love of Children: Perla Santos Ocampo as Scientist and Humanist (2008) (with Dr Belinda A. Aquino).

Dr. Clavel has also edited training handbooks, two of which are: Social Mobilization (1990) and The Work Improvement Team (1983).
His doctoral dissertation is titled "Distance Education in Public Health: The Formation of a Program Microculture" (1998).
in 1968, as an amateur short story writer, he wrote "Hustisya sang Dagat" (Justice of the Sea). The only short story he has ever written, it was published in the Hiligaynon (a magazine circulated in selected regions of the Philippines) in that year. Further, that short story was included in Juanito Marcella's Bahandi, an anthology of short stories in Hiligaynon published by the Lyceum Press in 1970. It has a Filipino translation in Rosario Cruz-Lucero's Sugilanon: Mga piling maikling kuwentong hiligaynon (published by De La Salle University in 1991) and an English translation in Corazon Villareal's Translating the Sugilanon: Reframing the Sign (a 1994 publication of the University of the Philippines Press).
