Biography
At 19 David Allen was a lead navigator in the Eighth Air Force group sometimes commanded by [Beirne Lay Jr.](/authors/OL2691439A), author of [Twelve O'Clock High](/works/OL6327626W/Twelve_o'clock_high!). At 20 he was a student playwright at Yale Drama School. After a four year stint at the University of Chicago he emerged as an M.A. in Sociology. His first book, [The Nature of Gambling](/works/OL2831167W/The_Nature_of_Gambling), published by [Coward-McCann](/publishers/Coward-McCann), enunciated for the first time a principle that has become basic to the law of gambling in the State of Hawaii.
In 1961 Mr. Allen attached the word "fashion" to the word. "wig" and launched the promotion that taught the world to see the wig as a "fashion accessory" rather than a therapeutic device. His company, Enhance Fashion Wigs, Inc. launched the development of the wig industry as it is today.
