Biography

Joseph-Charles-François de Rey-Pailhade, born at Béziers, was a French mining engineer and doctor, discoverer of the chemical substance “Philothion”, member of several french scientific societys and president of the “*Comité pour la Propagation des Méthodes Décimales*”. He wrote numerous articles and books on bio- and organic chemistry, as well as on the topics of chronology, chronometry and the decimalisation of time.

Being the son of Francois-Jean-Ambroise-Alphonse de Rey-Pailhade (1822–1893), he was the brother of amateur musician Constantin de Rey-Pailhade (1844–18..), nephew of Charles-Hippolyte-Bernard de Rey-Pailhade (1823–18..), Hippolyte de Rey-Pailhade (1825–19..) and [Émile de Rey-Pailhade (1828–ca. 1912)][1].
