Biography

Portillo Trambley has described herself as Chicana who has becomemuch Anglicized. Born into a middle-class Mexican American family, she seemingly had little personal experience with social discriminationwhile growing up. As an author and schoolteacher, married to an Anglo,she says that she finds herself at times torn between a strong feeling for Mexican culture and the Mexican American community.
