Biography
Burton Russell, a native of Kentville, Nova Scotia and a graduate of Acadia University with Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education degrees , later earned diplomas in Physical Education and School Administration from the Nova Scotia Department of Education. For a total of 35 years, he served as a high school teacher-athletic coach in Annapolis Valley-based schools. Author of 11 books on Nova Scotia sports, he was honored by induction in 2000 to Acadia University's Sports Hall of Fame as a a builder-historian. For a period of 24 seasons, he has been the official Statistician of the Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League. Born in 1934 and retired from teaching for the past 20 years, he has become an avid golfer, being a member of three provincially-located clubs. His most recent book, Acadia's Hockey Axemen, was published during the summer of 2012.
