Biography

Dr. Stephen D. Umans was Principal Research Engineer in the Electromechanical Systems Laboratory and the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, Massachusetts, from which he received the S.B., S.M., E.E., and Sc.D. degrees, all in electrical engineering. His professional interests included electromechanics, electric machinery, and electric power systems. At MIT, he has taught a wide range of courses including electromechanics, electromagnetics, electric power systems, circuit theory, and analog electronics. He was a Fellow of the IEEE and an active member of the Power Engineering Society.
