GilbertMertens knows pharma inside out: he’s served the sector in Europe & USA for 30 years.
He was General Manager Business Development and Communication at Merck KGaA until 2004. He served at Merck KGaA from 1982 to 2004.
Before joining Merck KGaA, Gilbert Mertens successfully managed the Paris (France) office of an international communications agency. He holds a French Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology, Politics & Psychology, a Master of Science in Public Policy & Governance,and a Master’s degree in Business Administration & Management Sciences.
Mr. Mertens serves as an Adviser in matters of healthcare to international institutions and financial institutions. He serves as a Member of Advisory Board at Paris & London based DragonKnight Advisors SARL of Benelux based Vemediapharma, and as Member of Scientific Advisory Board at Switzerland based International Streamline Academy. He is the owner of Germany based Remed’X GmbH, a trend analysis in healthcare company, also known for its European and Northamerican Mergers & Acquisitions activities (in cooperation with DZ Bank, MM Warburg and other financial institutions and investment groups).
With the contribution of many worldwide recognized experts, scientists and global business leaders in all matters covering the broad sector of pharmaceuticals, biotech, & healthcare, Gilbert Mertens has expounded some of his vast learning in a dozen of books so far; among them: The Molecular Revolution (2008) – a sourcebook of data and analysis within oncology, immunology, degenerative diseases and other targeted therapy segments; and New Thinking: Outsmarting Cancer Cells (2013). A preview of future cancer therapies and medicines. He was among the very first to write about the misuse of antibiotics, about precision medicine and inspired many researchers by his "Mastering the Complexities of Women Healthcare"global call for targeted medicines. His positive views on the future of medicine made him a welcome speaker at conferences. His series of Healthcare Management reports, published by the Financial Times and by Reuters Business Insight have been received within the global medico- pharmaceutical business community as benchmark publications.
