Biography
Born in Frankfurt, Germany to US citizens, Richard Florence lived all over the United States on military installations and nourished a love for art from an early age. After winning a spacesuit design contest in the Air Force Times, he attended Blue Mountain Community College and received his Commercial Art degree from the Colorado Institute of Art in Denver (now known as the Art Institute of Colorado).
An accomplished cartoonist, illustrator and portrait artist, his client list includes Keebler, Nortel, Clear Channel Communications, Disney, M&M-Mars, ECS Denver, the Colorado Council of the International Reading Association, Philly's Cheesesteak Grill and Tribune Interactive-Chicago.
Along with a 4-year stint of drawing and writing Japanese manga comic books. Richard's published several underground comics and through Squidworks, has had his one-off comics published in Salt Lake City's 'The Event' and the Poetry magazine "Mad Blood".
His current portfolio includes animation for online advergames and cellphone animated ringtones in partnership with Maggie Roswell (from the Simpsons) and her husband Hal Rayle's company Baboontunes.
His animation awards include a 2007 Telly Award (the Republichauns"), a Mobius award, a Webby and a W3 award.
A finalist in the Fox television network's "Pitch-O-Rama" contest, his animated show concept was chosen to be pitched in Hollywood to network execs in 2004.
